Manningham Council is inviting comments from the community on its draft plan for a major upgrade of Lawford Reserve in Doncaster, which is located between Westfield Doncaster and the Tullamore Estate residential development.

Lawford Reserve is a district reserve that has been highlighted for improvement in a number of key Council plans, including the Doncaster Hill Urban Master Plan, Open Space Strategy, Manningham Bicycle Strategy and the Doncaster Hill Public Art Master Plan.

The draft plan has been based on feedback received from the community during 2015 on what they value in open spaces and would like to see at Lawford Reserve, as well as the anticipated growth and changing population in the area.

Some of the highlights of the draft plan include:

  • Earth shaping and terracing to create more level useable areas within the reserve
  • Increased on-street parking, including disabled parking spaces
  • A new shared path for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Avenue planting and upgrades around the existing circuit path
  • Two additional entrance paths from the new street frontage along the western boundary (near Tullamore Estate)
  • Relocating the playspace to the east of the existing play equipment and upgrading it to include climbing nets, swings and natural elements such as sand, water, rocks and planting
  • A new paved multi-use space incorporating the relocated basketball half court, skateable elements, scooter and bike play area and a rebound wall for ball play
  • New picnic and barbecue shelter
  • New public toilets
  • Public art elements
  • Lots of seating and additional planting.

Community members are invited to make a submission on the Lawford Reserve Plan. Submissions must be made in writing, either:

  • Online at www.yoursaymanningham.com.au/lawford-reserve
  • By mail to Vivien Williamson, Manager Economic and Environmental Planning, PO Box 1, Doncaster VIC 3108

Submissions close on Monday 6 June 2016.

Feedback about the draft plan will help inform the final plan for Lawford Reserve.

Construction works are expected to start during the 2016/17 financial year and Council has allocated funds as part of its Capital Works Program over the next three years for this major upgrade.
